Drywall work divides into hanging (installing panels) and finishing (taping, mudding, sanding). Many workers specialize in one or the other; finishing commands higher pay. Entry is as a helper to an experienced crew — mixing mud, carrying materials, cleaning tools. The trade rewards patience above almost anything else. Rushed drywall finishing is always visible, especially under raking light.

Tips
  • 01Start by mixing mud and carrying materials — understand the materials before you touch a wall
  • 02Watch and learn embedding technique closely before picking up a knife — muscle memory for a flat stroke takes time
  • 03Raking light from a window or work light reveals defects invisible under direct overhead light — always check
