About This Project

SKILL OVER CREDENTIALS

Blue Collar Roadmaps is a free resource for anyone who wants to build a career in the skilled trades — without a four-year degree, without a professional license, and without spending years figuring out what to learn next.

What This Site Is

Each roadmap is an interactive node diagram showing the progression from complete beginner to master tradesperson. Nodes represent the skills, tools, and knowledge milestones that matter most in that trade — ordered so you can follow the path without guessing what comes next.

Every node includes a description of what to learn, practical tips from the trade, and curated links to real learning resources: industry organizations, training programs, YouTube channels run by working professionals, and professional forums.

There are currently 12 trade roadmaps covering construction, automotive, finishing, landscaping, and specialty trades. More are planned.

Each node links to industry organizations, free training guides, YouTube channels by real tradespeople, and professional communities.

The Philosophy

The trades are systematically undervalued in the way career paths are presented to young people. Skilled tradespeople build, maintain, and repair the physical infrastructure that everyone depends on — and they are consistently in demand, often earning well above median wages without carrying student loan debt.

The roadmaps here focus on what actually matters: the skills you need to do the work well, the tools of the trade, and where to find the real learning resources used by professionals. No filler, no gatekeeping credentials.
